Introduction

The School of Languages at OGF University is established to deliver high-quality language education, research, and training. Aligned with global standards such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the school serves students, professionals, and the wider community. Our mission is to empower learners with essential language skills for academic success, employability, and international engagement.

Vision & Mission

Vision: To become a leading center of excellence in language education in Somaliland and the Horn of Africa.
Mission: To provide internationally recognized language training, foster multilingualism, and integrate language learning into higher education, professional development, and research.

Objectives
  • Deliver CEFR-aligned programs (A1–C2).
  • Prepare students for international certification exams (IELTS, TOEFL, DELF/DALF, Goethe-Zertifikat).
  • Strengthen academic English and professional communication for OGFU students.
  • Provide outreach through community training and translation services.
  • Advance research in applied linguistics and language pedagogy.

A. Academic Language Programs
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • English for Specific Purposes (ESP) (Law, Business, ICT, Medicine)
  • Somali Language & Literature (for research, preservation, and non-native learners)
B. Foreign Language Programs
  • Arabic (General & Academic)
  • Turkish (via partnerships with Turkish universities)
  • French (Alliance Française collaboration)
  • Amharic (with Haramaya University, Ethiopia)
  • Other languages on demand: Spanish, German, Swahili, etc.
C. Professional Certification Preparation
  • IELTS / TOEFL
  • Business English Certification
  • Diplomas in Translation & Interpretation

Each level: 16 weeks (1 semester) | 4–6 credit hours.

Implementation Roadmap (2025–2028)
  • Year 1 (2025/26): Launch English Language Center (EAP, ESP, IELTS Prep) + Arabic.
  • Year 2 (2026/27): Add French, Turkish, Amharic. Establish Translation Diploma.
  • Year 3 (2027/28): Expand into a full multilingual center + applied linguistics research hub.
Expected Outcomes
  • OGFU students graduate with internationally benchmarked language proficiency.
  • The community gains access to career-focused language training.
  • OGFU becomes a recognized hub for language education and research in Somaliland and the Horn of Africa.
